Meta - The Priestess

[From kittydesade's Arcana]

THE PRIESTESS

The Priestess concerns herself most of all with the mental, emotional, and spiritual ills of her people, that which is more difficult to see and harder to diagnose. Unlike the Witch, she is not always kind and certainly not always gentle. Like the Sorcerer, she is highly intelligent and has the ability to see into people; she must have, or she wouldn't be able to find and assist to fix the problem. Assist to fix, because whenever possible she leads a person to wisdom rather than confer wisdom that may yet be forgotten. She combines, in either aspect or behavior, many of the properties of many of the Arcana. This is one of her chiefest attributes, the ability to be or be viewed as what a person needs at any given time. This changeability does not reflect her inner nature.

The Priestess may come from any background, but at some point in her life she goes through unusually harsh trials and reaches an understanding of herself. It is this, more than any training in psychology or mentalism, that enables her to help others. She is willing to ask herself the hard questions and force herself to answer them truly and thoroughly before she asks them of any others. The asking and the acceptance helps her ask the hard questions of others and accept the answers, which in turn helps her help others. It gives her strength, openness and honesty without the hypocrisy of refusing to do what she asks of others, and a blatant willingness to try and accept that which others find abhorrent in themselves. The question put to the petitioners in the movie Willow was the power to control the universe lies in which finger. The correct answer, displaying what might seem to be arrogance but what is indicated as confidence, is the petitioner's own finger.

The Priestess as she is in this state is rarely found in fiction by herself. The journey stage is a popular theme in fiction, as many people would like to be well balanced and strong enough to handle or help anyone who comes their way. However, she also crops up often in teams where one or more of the team is a misfit, an anarchist or other source of chaos so strong that it takes a well-balanced figure to handle him. These Priestesses are more realistic, and they are more subtle than their journeying counterparts. The Priestess is also often given as the flip side to the Sorcerer, as she is one of the only Arcane types capable of keeping up with his mercurial shifts and hyper-intelligent manipulations.

The Black King

You scored 0 Power-Finesse, 5 Leader-Follower, 2 Unique-Ordinary, and 0 Offense-Defense!

You are comfortable letting a situation evolve, reacting to it, and exploiting the weakness of your enemy when he over-reaches. Your followers are loyal to you, and would gladly fall upon the sword of an advancing rook or queen for you, but you would rather use them to sneak in and suprise the enemy. You are content to let others do your dirty work, even your Queen.

Lace

It looked beautiful, falling down over her shoulders in a rippling cascade of lightly embroidered lace, pooling at the floor at her feet. The gold of her hair shone through it and with the tiara settled on top of her curls, Keelia thought Alisha was the one who looked like a fairy princess today.

"It's perfect."

"You don't think it's too long?" Alisha twisted this way and that, biting her lip and frowning at the mirror.

"I think it will settle nicely on the train, sort of an overlay effect."

"I don't know..." Alisha pulled the tiara out of her hair, handing the veil back to the saleslady with a slightly frazzled smile. "Why is it so hard to pick out anything?"

"Because you want it to be perfect." Keelia looked her over. "What do you think about the dress?"

"Meh."

"Right. Not the dress." She moved to unbutton each of the tiny pearl buttons running up Alisha's back. "Next one?"

"Yeah." That seemed to revitalized Alisha's exuberance and she dropped a kiss on Keelia's cheek before darting, as much as one could dart in a dress with a five foot train, back to the dressing room.

Keelia wandered a bit in the shop, waiting until she was called to help do up the next in a series of dresses. Her fingers brushed over the veils, letting the lace drift over her fingers. On impulse, she picked one up, settling it and attaching it to a simple circlet. It was soft, flowing over her shoulders and the image in the mirror brought up another that brought tears to her eyes. Her fingers touched the glass, to reassert this reality, this time.

"It looks lovely." The saleswoman's voice made her spin, quickly, blinking back the tears. She knew her empty ring finger had been noted and she felt a little silly as she pulled it off. The saleswoman took it from her with a warm smile. "Dreaming of a young man to wear it for?"

Keelia shook her head, just a little, and managed a smile in return. "Maybe someday."

Alisha called her name, and she hurried back to help her. She was happy. She had Midir. She had Michael. They had a son they were raising. And Midir, god bless him, she knew still considered them married from the first time. But Etain had been the bride then, not her, and there was an ache inside as she felt her life subsumed again into hers. It was supposed to get easier with acceptance, not harder, but every day she felt herself, her separateness, sliding away and wondered if a time would come when Etain was all that was left.
Midr and Keelia - go wild

Lyric post

Now the parking lot is empty
Everyone's gone someplace
I pick you up and in the trunk I've packed
A cooler and a two-day suitcase
Cause there's a place we like to drive
Way out in the country
Five miles out of the city limit we're singing
And your hand's upon my knee

Chorus:
So we're okay, we're fine
Baby I'm here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I'm stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
We'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that's true
Multiply life by the power of two

You know the things I'm afraid of
I'm not afraid to tell
And if we ever leave a legacy
It's that we loved each other well
Cause I've seen the shadows of so many people
Trying on the treasures of youth
But a road that's fancy and fast ends in a fatal crash
And I'm glad we got off to tell you the truth

Chorus

All the shiny little trinkets of temptation
Something new instead of something old
All you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface
And it's fool's gold
Fool's gold
Fool's gold
Amy:
Make new friends but
Keep the old
But remember
What is gold
What is gold
What is gold

Now we're talking bout a difficult thing
And your eyes are getting wet
I tookus for better and I took us for worse
Now don't you ever forget
Now the steel bars between me and a promise
Suddenly bend with ease
And the closer I'm bound in love to you
The closer I am to free

So we're okay, we're fine
Baby I'm here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I'm stronger than a monster beneath your bed
I'm smarter than the tricks played on your heart
We'll look at them together then we'll take them apart
Adding up the totals of a love that's true
Multiply life by the power of two

You Are The High Priestess

You represent mystery - secrets that are yet to be revealed.
You find yourself sitting between two worlds: one dark, one light.
You tend to hold these two worlds in balance, reconciling the two.
Open and welcoming, you invite others to learn your secrets.

Your fortune:

Something hidden, or latent, in your life is about to come forward.
You need to pay more attention to your dreams, thoughts, intuition, and imagination.
And if that involves tapping into your dark side, it will all balance out in the end.
You have a lot of potential dying to be unleashed, so let those gates open!

Library of Four Winds Challenge -- Sweet

It bothered her more than a little some of the time. Perhaps a lot of the time. There was this way they looked at her, something in their eyes that made her want to scream at them. More Midir than Michael, but then Michael had known her just as her, had never seen her as her.

Sometimes Keelia hated her. It was her fault, after all. She hadn't been able to defend herself, even as a Sidhe. She'd let Fuamnach do as she would, and wrought all of this. Even when she didn't hate her for that, she hated her for the way Midir looked at her.

She wasn't perfect. She wasn't innocent. She wasn't sweet. She'd done things and thought things that would put that to rest, but they wouldn't listen when she tried to tell them. She tried to throw herself off of the pedastal, but it was too high, and every time she tried, they ran to catch her.

There was an irrational wish that they'd let her fall, but she knew in the end that they wouldn't. They felt they'd let her down too many times. Couldn't see where she'd started it all herself. But it hurt, as flattering as it was that they worked so hard to protect her, it still hurt to know they felt they had to. That she couldn't protect herself.

Somewhere inside, she thought that she could. That she knew how to fight this battle, how to finally win. She knew what it would take and it would have to come from her. There was nothing sweet about the solution, and she wondered, repeatedly, why she hadn't taken that step. If nothing else, it would banish that look from their eyes forever.

She wondered where she'd be then.
